All-day Event Raises Funds for Military Families and Local Charities
June 21, 2023 was a day to celebrate local military and their families. Each year, Colorado Springs Western Street Breakfast serves a delicious hot breakfast for just $5. This is hosted by the Pikes Peak Range Riders. It’s a huge event where folks come out in their cowboy boots, hats, and jeans to celebrate, and it was fun to be part of the festivities.
Later that afternoon I went to Latigo Equestrian Trails in Elbert to watch the Range Riders compete in a ranch rodeo. Even with storm clouds looming and the threat of thunderstorms, these hardy cowboys competed in roping, sorting, relay races and more during the afternoon games. This is just one of many events put on at Latigo. KRDO news was even there to cover the event.
Pikes Peak Range Riders Foundation is a nonprofit organization formed in 1999 to focus on charitable community activities. In 2001, generous contributions allowed them to purchase the Latigo land and facilities from a few Range Rider benefactors. In 2009, the Foundation clarified the mission to promote Western heritage through youth events and activities. The vision was to instill the core values of the cowboy way to the youth in our community.
I’m fortunate to live just a few miles from this amazing facility. Located on 45 acres, it offers horse boarding, several riding arenas (one indoor), a restaurant and bar, retail stores, and an incredible museum. It’s Southern Colorado’s gathering place. There’s a show at this venue nearly every weekend. The facilities manager, Bob Harrison, keeps things running smoothly. He has really made me feel welcome and allows me to put magazines at the entrance which has proven to be one of the best outlets here in Colorado.
